GERMAINE LINA PARENT
SWANTON - Mrs. Germaine Lina Parent, age 92 years, died late Friday afternoon, Oct. 8, 2010 in the St. Albans Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Granby, Quebec Canada, on Feb. 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Maria (Lagace) Desroches. She attended schools in Granby and on Oct. 16, 1943 was married to Donat Parent who predeceased her on July 31, 1978. In addition to her many responsibilities as a wife and mother, she became a very faithful and active parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary where she belonged to Ladies of Saint Anne and Altar Society. She also served on the Social Action Committee visiting hospitals and nursing homes and became a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Associates as well as volunteering for many years in the parishes Religious Education Program. Mrs. Parent was also a member of the Hi-Swans Senior Citizens, Grandma's and Grandpa's Choral Group the Vermont Association for the Blind and a volunteer at the former Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility. In her later years she was known for her knitting and the making of hundreds of mittens for the Swanton school children. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and playing cards. Mrs. Parent leaves her five children and their spouses, Robert and Linda Parent of Sheldon, Roger and Lucy Parent of Georgia, Normand and Debbie Parent of Highgate Center, Jacques and Mariel Parent of Swanton, and Denise and Pierre Choquette of Swanton with whom she made her home for two years; 16 grandchildren, and their spouses, Madonne and Peter Rainville, Mark and Amy Parent, Carole and Amy Parent, Sebastian and Rebecca Theberge, J.P. and Michelle Theberge, Julie and Todd Patterson, Andre and Susan Parent, Alan and Jennifer Parent, JoAnne Parent, Danielle Parent, Major Michael and Alice Parent, Chantal and David Persons, Rachel and Daniel Gallagher, Lise Parent, Nicole and Thomas Juiffre and Luc Choquette; 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The last survivor of her generation, she was predeceased by her husband Donat and two brothers and four sisters. The family of Mrs. Parent wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to Muriel Corbeil as well as all the caregivers at the St. Albans Health and Rehab for their love, care and support. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St. Swanton. Fr. Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Parent family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery.
