October 29, 1979
BFA-Fairfax won it's first girls sports championship when the Varsity Field Hockey team tied Thetford 1-1, for a share of the Class "M" State Championship. The game was scheduled to be played Saturday the 27th, but was rained out and played the following Monday. Dianna Gates scored BFA's goal. In June of 1980, the girls got theor first outright championship when the Varisty Softball team were State Champs.

Thanks again for the info. Didn't those same girls ....in 1980 & 81 ..also win the State Basketball Championship ? As I remember , as Head Coach, Kevin Hebert's Field Hockey & Softball Teams had great success and were loaded with talented players who were well coached in fundamentals.
As an aside, one of those years , during pre-season practice in the gym , I accepted someone's challenge to try to hit against Dianna's offerings in the cage ( in the gym ).....never came even close to getting my bat on her pitches !!!!

Both of those championships were my senior year at BFA!! So many friends on those two teams. Woo Hoo! Oh, wait...now that is a "date in history". Great, now I really feel old...
