There seems to be a digestive illness going around the Fairfax area. There are 3 known cases with the same exact symptoms and same doctor responses. They don't know what it is. It has lasted for 3 years with one person, 7 months with another and 5 months with the other.
The symptoms are: weight loss (i lost 20lbs in 4 weeks),diarrhea, bloating, sweats, weak/shaking legs, interior shaking (no fever), lightheaded, dizzy, lack of consentration, memory loss, major feeling of just feeling ill not able to go to work and severe anxiety as a symptoms not a cause. The doctors start with parasites, lactose intolerant then celiac (gluten free, must be in style now). Then they go on to colonoscopy and endoscopy with biopsies showing nothing. They have taken so much blood for tests (not sure what for) Finally they go to IBS and it is all in your head. We all know these illnesses are to just make you go away when they don't have answers. It is not a contagious illness because no other family members have it. The 3 known cases are random acquaintances.
The illness has peeks and valleys but you never feel better. You get some relief from doing something physical and it comes right back the minute you stop and sit down.
I personally have been to 6 doctors. Quit all my regular habits: coffee, nicotine, sugar and junk food with not much improvement.
If any one has or knows of a person in the fairfax area with a similar story (remember this is more than the normal 3-7 day illness we all get, this is a minimum of 4 months). Please send me your story so I can get the doctors to take it more serious. Send to mysteryillness01@yahoo.com (http://mysteryillness01@yahoo.com)

sounds like co poisioning to me

I am thinking CO is like carbon monoxide poison from the furnace. No one else in the house is sick.

Lyme disease.....
-
Nope, Been tested for lyme. Thanks
-
If you tested for Lyme only at the local hospitals, they may have missed it. My daughter went two years with symptoms they could not figure out and said it was all in her head. Finally went to a specialist in Lyme Disease. New test, sent to California lab and confirmed as Lyme. Next problem is that insurance companies will not pay for the continued treatment that is needed for Lyme.

lead paint?

I agree, I have a friend with Lyme disease it sounds like that is what it is. With the population of Ticks in VT sky rocketing I would really look into that test maybe give it a second shot.

Film called "Under Our Skin" about Lyme disease. Symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and how the big money insurance companies are preventing treatment.

You may want to check your water supply, septic tank, and your walls.
Walls for when your home was built.
Have you home tested.
It may relieve your symptoms.
I have a co worker who's whole family was sickened due to mold and bacterial growth...for months.

confirmed Lyme Disease. along with other people I had mentioned.

from what i understand this is good news?

confirmed Lyme Disease. along with other people I had mentioned.
Is there a treatment for Lyme?
I am ignorant on this subject........ no wise cracks.
If so, what is it?

Usually it is a course of antibiotics accompanied by dietary changes. It can last for years. My sister in law thought she needed a knee replacement, had trouble with her shoulders, and finally was tested by an alert doctor and has lyme disease. She was fortunate in that she hadn't had it very long. She has limited range of motion in her shoulders, but is otherwise okay. The longer it takes to diagnose, the more difficult it is to treat. I have a friend whose husband finally went to Dartmouth Hitchcock and was properly diagnosed and is now being treated and his quality of life has improved.
Good luck!
Not being silly, but our lab has lyme disease and periodically it shows up as stiffness in the joints and once on meds he is better. He has had the shots.
There is an increasing amount of lyme disease around here, unfortunately. We always check ourselves and our dogs for ticks.
Someone in my exercise class, in the early spring, twice went to the doctor and got the medicine for lyme disease as she found the characteristic bite on her arm..

Unbelievable. A light in 6 doctors heads couldn't come on to this? Good call on the Lyme Disease Rev. Elizabeth, believe in God every time!

6 doctors. By now I am over 20 doctors, 2 colonscopies, 2 endoscopes, biopsies, 1/2 million blood tests. If anyone feels sick like this go right to a Lyme specialist. The local tests are useless. email me for my specialist.

I have a feeling you went to Fletcher Allen... they would screw up that like.
Glad it's figured out though and I wish you the best.

Lyme disease isn't easy to diagnose; it's symptoms are like many other maladies, and it isn't something doctors would readily consider since it is just beginning to creep north. However, it is around, and people should be careful to check themselves out after tromping through grasses and woods.

I must say I had the worst Primary at the time. He was so arrogant and did not listen to anything I had to say. He treated me and talked to me like I was a kid and he also without my consent gave me a drug test. I was very insulted of his suspicions. My history is that I have worked installing fence for 18 years in Ma, Cape Cod the Islands, RI, Conn, New Hampshire. They really should have looked into it a little better than they did. I changed my Primary and she suspected Lyme and told me the test around here are useless. We sent it to a special Lyme lab in CA. Now that I am sick over a year and a half it will take a long time to get rid of.
