Title: VBC Closing?
Post by: swilliam on January 21, 2011, 10:44:51 AM
I have heard  that the VBC may be closing....am wondering if it is true as I really like the restaurant and have had such good meals there.  Can anyone confirm this?

I cannot confirm this either, but have heard the rumors and suspect it is true.

I have only been there once and had a horrible meal.  I've talked with other people who had the same experience.  I haven't returned since.  And considering the lack of vehicles in the parking lot whenever I drive by...

We've always had good food, after the new owners took over.  I hope they are not closing.

We went there the first week it opened & the food was wonderful. A few months later we went back & the food was not very good. We would never go back there.

I have eaten there many times and can say I have had a great meal each time.

You can put me in the fan category. I, too, hope they don't close.

I'm very sorry to hear this, but hope another establishment can fill the need for a reasonably priced family restaurant in town.

Wow, this is sad :(  But I'm glad 158 Main will remain open and wish Jack and crew all the best!

Mary Kay & I went there to eat this past Sunday - We are only 8 miles from Jeffersonville & 158 Main, so still do not have a long ways to go.  Still sorry to see them go, but it was a tough year to open a new business and I for one to not actually go out to a restaurant to eat very often.

WAS it the fod?  or the service?  In the beginning, they had soem real choice young people working there- who thought they were entitled to at least a %15 tip nomatter how good their person skills were.  how hard is it to ake an order, read specials, and bring food with a smile and good attitude?  If you DON't want to work there - DON'T.
To be fair, in the second half of their ownership they had better staff - we always requested this one server who had worked in the old Country Pantry - best server there!

FXDHS and Trevor,

it will be sad to see Switchback on tap in Fairfax go..... :(

I'm so disapointed!  I really enjoyed going there on Sunday morning for breakfast.  We didn't go much for lunch or dinner but have never had a breakfast that I didn't like.  Does anyone know why??

Yes, I'll be sad to see Switchback leave Fairfax- but my wife never let me have it with my breakfast anyway :(

While I had very good breakfasts there, as recently as Christmas Eve day, I can honestly say I was disappointed in their dinner menu. The dinner food was actually very good, but I think that the menu selection was of higher priced meals that perhaps folks in town weren't willing to pay for.  I think a lot of people would prefer the type of home cooking and lower priced fare that the original Country Pantry had to offer.  It was always easy to go to the Pantry in the middle of the week and grab a bite to eat, without it costing a lot of money.  I didn't do that as much at the VBC given the menu pricing.  Just my opinion of course.

I have gone numerous times to VBC, and always had good experience with not only the staff but also the meals. It was such a nice change to have a great restaurant in town with such a variety of homemade and locally grown items. I am sorry to see it close...

I'm working with Jack on the gift certificates.
He's an honorable guy and will be making things right.
We should have some news in a day or two.

Thanks Chris - I figured you would be talking with him about it.  He is truly an honorable guy and I am sure I will run into him up in Jeffersonville.

Yes all, don't forget you can get all that delicious food still at 158 Main in Jeffersonville, 802-644-8100, just about 10 minutes from the VBC location!

Rumour was that the owner of the building wouldn't renegotiate the rent.  Seems that was a problem with the previous tenants . . .
Too bad;  loved eating there for breakfast . . . best breakfast around and just a few minutes away.

Lets just say that was the case for a minute. Who eats the cost of the remodel they did to the building? How dies that work. I want a gift shop someday so just a question?

Fairfax could use a House of Pizza. Every town needs one. And they could serve Switchback!

would anyone support pizza delivery ?
wings, soda too, maybe.

The Pizza idea is better than Bar & Grill --- Pizza and Cold Beer ---  with a salad selection too ..

It may not meet the test of time -- but I would like Pizza -- real Pizza available locally ( including take out too ) .

My two cents only...

I agree with SWilliam's posting on Jan 26   re: the VBC's menu & pricing.  I think that maybe the higher prices esp at dinner kept some people away. The County Pantry's style was home cooking at reasonable prices. Maybe someone else will take over the restaurant location & try that avenue again.

Another good restaurant to try for breakfast is JP's in Essex on River Rd.
If one wants to go for a bit of a ride during good weather - I also recommend the Best Friends family restaurant in Rouses Point NY. They are just over the bridge on the left at the T-intersection .  Home cooking & reasonable prices. Breakfast, lunch & dinner (518) 297-4745
