Title: What Is It? Part 3
Post by: MikeF9 on March 03, 2011, 01:36:08 PM
Sunday night March 6th at 6:30pm, the Fairfax Historical Society will be having a meeting at the Fairfax Community Library.
The program for the evening will be 'What Is It?". With advances in technology and engineering, many work, farming, and household items are now obsolete.
People are invited to bring in items so everyone can guess What Is It? The public is invited to attend.

This week, I will post some pictures of some of the things we will be looking at and trying to guess what it was used for back in the day.

Today, we look at another item we have on display at the museum.

NOTE: We will not be posting the correct answers here until after the meeting Sunday evening.

I'm officially going to say since it is so small that it could be something you might use to make a cup of tea maybe before they had teabags? Just a guess but it looks like it would work

I think that frying basket idea might be close.  We used to have a basket much like this but bigger that we used to make popcorn over an open fire.  I wouldn't be surprised if it is intended for cooking of some sort, either immersed or over the flames.

Either that or it's a travel cage for the hamster.

It's a toaster. You put it on an open fire/embers.

I agree with two previous post that you put leftover soap chips in it and use it to make suds to hand wash clothes. I think my grandparents had one.

I agree with Fletchergram...it's a toaster of some sort...or at least used for cooking.

Joking aside, the soap idea sounds and looks feasible.  It seems like there is some white residue on the item too.
