What is an ash borer and why are there traps? There is one in a tree next to where I live on Huntville Rd. I didn't know what it was when I saw it. I was wondering why someone hung a blue box in a tree.

the emerald ash borer is an invasive spieces that targets ash trees, and eventually kills them.  Heres the wikipedia on them

The color attracts the ash Borer and  it is sticky to trap the insect.
Here's a good explanation written by someone much smarter than me : http://vtdigger.org/2011/05/18/purple-ash-borer-traps-installed-in-vermont/ (http://vtdigger.org/2011/05/18/purple-ash-borer-traps-installed-in-vermont/)
