The Bellows Free Academy National Honor Society held its annual Induction and Recognition Ceremony on May 17.  Thirty-seven new students were inducted into the school’s Artisto Chapter of NHS.  These students were selected by a faculty council of teachers and staff based on the National Honor Society’s four virtues: Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service.

The banquet included guest speakers Gabe Grant, a 2005 graduate from BFA, Principal Michael Clark, and National Honor Society President Adelle Rebeor.  Also featured was the BFA Fairfax select chorus as they sang the school’s alma mater, Annie Dreher singing the national anthem, and exchange student Kittitat "Kob" Kiattanavith on the piano as the new members were escorted in.  A delicious dessert was provided by the Abbey Group.

BFA Fairfax’s mission is to ensure “all students become informed, literate, critical thinkers who demonstrate responsible social and civic behaviors.”  The new and current members of the National Honor Society personify what this mission sets out to achieve.  They are not only involved in their school they participate in giving back to their communities in many different ways.  As NHS president Adelle Rebeor discussed in her speech, this year the National Honor Society students worked with the United Way, Fairfax Food Shelf, three American Red Cross blood drives, Green Up Day, PTSA, they volunteered to shovel snow, gardening around the school building, they sent packages to the troops, they volunteered at the Alumni Banquet….the list goes on and on! All were done with a very enthusiastic spirit to give back to our school and community and help those in need.

Sara Villeneuve, advisor for the National Honor Society said, “There really is no greater pleasure than working with these students; they are a terrific group of young adults who look for ways to give back.”

The National Honor Society banquet is often the kick of to many upcoming graduation activities.  Twenty-eight NHS seniors received their graduation honor stoles to acknowledge their accomplishments and success as a part of the organization.  The NHS officers were also recognized with pins for their distinguished achievement.  Below is a roster of the BFA Fairfax Aristo Chapter of the National Honor Society.

Henry & Chris       As long as I can remember , there has always been a NHS presence at BFA , but it really gained prominence when Ernie Codding took on the Advisorship in the late 60's and early 70's.  The surprising element to some was the multiple activies that the members participate in while maintaining high academic standards and demonstrating strong values around school. I think Ernie would be pleased to see that the tradition carries on , as worthy as ever.

Dick,
The advisor nowadays is Al Daniels' daughter Sara. Only she is Sara Villeneauve, married with a couple of kids. She teaches 9th grade English and team teaches with Will Brooks, son of former kindergaten teacher Carolyn Brooks. It's always great when you have some kids who come back "home" to teach. We also have Elaine Delorme's daughter, Lindy, teaching 6th grade, and Bob Bessette's daughter, Emily, in the middle school.
As I look over the list of kids that are on the NHS, there are still a lot of student athletes who excell on the field and in the classroom.

Thanks for the info , Mike      Nice to know that BFA's NHS students , both current and in the past , are still active in academics and other aspects of school life.
