Norman L. Weeber

St. Albans - Longtime resident of St. Albans, Mr. Norman L. Weeber, age 80, died early Wednesday morning, June 8, 2011, at The Manor nursing home in Morrisville, VT.  Norman was born November 24, 1930 in Hollis, New York to the late Roland and Evelyn (Carter) Weeber.

After graduation from Andrew Jackson High, Norman joined the U.S. Air Force in order to see the world.  Upon completion of basic training, Norman’s first assignment was as a radar tech stationed in St. Albans.  He often fondly recounted that Franklin County’s syrup crop was safely kept out of enemy hands due in part to his gallant efforts.

While stationed in St. Albans, Norman was the luckiest man in the world to meet Claire Joyce Audette.  The handsome couple married on November 3, 1951 and soon thereafter moved to St. Albans, NY. where they started a new life and family in the big city.

Norman began a lifetime career with “Ma” Bell in Manhattan and in 1967 transferred family and work to St. Albans, VT.  Norm was affectionately referred to in St. Albans as “The Telephone Man,” and retired from AT & T after 35 years of service.  He was a member of the IBEW Union.  When Norm wasn’t fixing troubled phone systems he could be found on the Houghton Park basketball court where he held the low post and was reverently referred to as “Big W.”  Norman was a long time bowling participant and also liked to ride his bike around town.  He was always quick with a joke and enjoyed making others laugh.  Norman was especially proud of his children and he could always be found cheering on his offspring at basketball, tennis and baseball games.

Norman is survived by his sons Eric A. Weeber and his wife Brenda of Waterbury Center, VT, Curt G. Weeber and his wife Monica of Winooski, VT, and his daughter Karen E. Weeber of Fairfax, VT., grandchildren Braelin and Tess Hanbridge, Brandy Bishop, Joey, Ashley, Christy and Dominic Caforia, great grandchildren Anthony, Jake, Sophia and James, sisters in law Nancy Audette, R.S. M. of West Hartford, CT., Janice and her husband Charles Worcester of Burlington, VT, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special canine grandson named Grizzly Bear.  He was predeceased by his parents, infant brother, wife Claire in 2008 and son Matthew Weeber, who died in 1991.
