Next year our 7th and 8th grade students will be getting an Apple ipad. At one time my daughter wanted to bring a school book home but was told no. She might loose it. But we are going to trust them with ipads. Who will cover the cost if one get lost, broken or stolen. The parent? What if the parent can not cover the replacement cost. Where are they going to keep them in there back packs. I watch how they treat those. Tossed around and when they go outside there are days when there is a light rain or snow on the ground.
What do other parents feel about this.

I htink they fit inside a plastic bag just in case. They are going to be like pencils and paper are today and kids in the 7th and 8th grade are definitely old enough to take responsibility for them. I would assume that the kids not so responsible will not have them. I think we were very fortunate to get them. I think it is good.If my son has issues with it he will also have issues with his phone, his ipod his free time. He will be working to earn money to replace it. Just saying

I assume these will be WIFI only..??
1st gen with no video camera I hope?
Otter Boxes?
Giving a child a $400.00 device scares me also, Red.
I scare myself enough with my phone and $175 Nextbook.
The building inspectors here have them now and I have seen some of the adults break them thinking they were the Tuff Books that first responders get.

I thnk in some respects its a great opportunity for some who may not have access at home but there are definately some questions i would want answered. Like if the ipad stopped working at the fault of no one, whos responsible for repair? My daughter will be in that grade soon enough and there would be some worries on my end and she is more responsible than some.
