WESTFORD - The Vermont State Police responded to Osgood Hill Road in Westford at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle behind a vacant residence.
Troopers said they encountered "EWO", 30, of Fletcher, parked in his truck. "O" had allegedly been disassembling a greenhouse in the backyard. Police said he claimed to have responded to an advertisement at Minor's Store in Fairfax that stated the greenhouse was available. In addition, said police, "O" said a man named Todd said it was OK for him to disassemble the greenhouse.
"O", said police, did not know "Todd's" last name and gave no way to contact him.
The owner of the residence then arrived and confirmed no arrangement regarding the greenhouse had been made, said police.
It was also discovered that several doors and windows were unlocked, and one of the windows had been forced open, authorities said. Police alleged that Ovitt also had a criminally suspended license. He was taken into custody and lodged at the Chittenden Correctional Center for violations including alleged burglary, unlawful mischief, unlawful trespass, petty larceny, and driving with a suspended license.
