Fairfax - Ardelle Blanche Spaulding, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday August 22, 2011 with her loving family by her side.
Ardelle was born on November 7, 1919 in Fletcher, the daughter of Clifton and Rhoda ( Green) Corse. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937 and Johnson Normal School in 1939. On June 10, 1940, Ardelle married Wesley Spaulding. She taught for a short while in Fletcher from 1939 to 1942, before raising her family. She returned to teaching in Fletcher from 1964 - 1967. She and Wesley farmed in West Fletcher from 1940 - 1951 when they moved to the home farm on Fairfield Road. She began teaching at BFA in Fairfax in 1967. She received her Bachelors degree in Education from UVM in 1973. She retired from BFA in Fairfax in 1983. Following her retirement, she and Wesley moved to Fairfax Village, where she has lived since 1984.
Ardelle was a very active member of the Fletcher Community, the Binghamville Church, the Farm Bureau, and the Grange. She was an accomplished knitter and loved to crochet. She enjoyed gardening and loved to play scrabble daily. She is survived by her daughter Rhoda Spaulding of Holden, Ma., by her son John Spaulding and his wife Sue of Fletcher, by her grandson Michael Spaulding and his wife Sandy of Fletcher, by her half brothers and half sisters Allen "Bud" Martin of Enosburg, Dorothy Newhall of Springfield, Lois Lumbra of Montgomery, Clifford "Jr." Corse of Berlin, Maureen Patterson of Duxbury, Colin Corse of Waterbury and Clifford Corse of Lyndonville, her great grandson Michael Brian Hebert of Fairfax and by several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks is extended to all the friends and neighbors who have helped with Ardelle staying at home, especially Elaine Delorme who was Ardelle's scrabble partner and friend for over 40 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Wesley, her son-in-law Stephan Desmarais, her grandchildren Dale and Sherry Spaulding and her brother Rodney Corse and sister Thelma Burnor, her half sister and half brother Shirley White and Harrison "Tye" Corse.
