The Board Of Civil Authority is having a meeting tomorrow night to decide the following:
"The School is having a Special Election on November 8, 2011. We will be putting on this Election. The School wants polling times to be 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. This is a decision that needs to be made by the BCA Board. It has also been address to me that maybe the polling times should be changed for all Elections.
Please see the attachment of the warned BCA meeting on September 29, 2011 @ 5:45 p.m. @ the Fairfax Town Clerk's Office.
I look forward to seeing you there."
Initial input I have received is that the polls should be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accomodate the different working schedules of the voters in town. There is always another alternative for those that have difficulty in making it when the polls are open and that is to vote by Absentee Ballot.. In that case a person can appear at the town office when they are open and actually vote right there or they can call and have the ballot mailed to them - Any input from anyone on this??

Back when the polls used to be open from 10-7, we would have people who were new to Fairfax show up earlier expecting to vote. We would tell them, nope, 10-7. Then they would do the ablogatory, "Well, in the town I USED to live in, the polls were open 7-7."
So now it's 7 to7.
Why does the school want the change? The custodians are there at 6am, and the booths and such are set up the night before. We were always accomodating before, why the change?

I agree Mike. Also, many people prefer to vote on their way to work, some have long shifts, family and/or other obligations after work take over their time. Why discourage voters with a decrease in hours.....
I am not in favor of the school's suggestion. This has never been a problem or issue that I am aware of. This is not disruptive to the students. Geez, back when we were in school they would vote and we would eat school lunch in the same gym!
