Title: Anyone Know What This Mystery Bug Is??
Post by: Henry on May 14, 2012, 07:51:46 AM
Hi Henry,

I saw this mystery bug on the side of my house.  It is pure white with tiny black dots on the back end. Anyone know what it is?

It is some form of moth. Used to see a lot of different kinds of moths at the old Spartan Industries, now Amoskeag on Fletcher Road. Moths are attracted to the big lights on sides of buildings.

White Furry Moth I'm guessing.

There is no fuzzy stuff on this moth so it can't be the white furry moth.

You'd think we'd be able to scan this photo into a computer and find the results. I would love to have identification software as standard equipment like windows on all computers.

When I first saw this bug it looked like a white curled up flower; see the shape of the right and left back sides in my picture. I am now thinking it perhaps is a white furry moth that perhaps just hatched which explains why there is no fluffy stuff on it yet. It does have the spotted tail and legs but the wings are pure white.

Henry I sent this off to a friend in St. Albans that likes mysteries and this is what she sent me back.

I think it is what is called a house moth...I got this picture off an image site which showed all types of moths.
