Title: Time For The Pre Buy
Post by: Henry on June 14, 2012, 08:16:53 AM
Well, I don't have any idea what anybody else is paying for their heating fuel, but I have been pre-buying mine for a number of years.  Got my letter from Clarence Brown who purchased S B Collins and they offered me a pre-buy for $3.39 a gallon - My average yearly useage is 870 gallons for heat and hot water.

I certainly am not doing it because I think I am going to make any money off from it, but it is better than using the actual with a cap of $3.69 a gallon.  Now, if I was getting big interest on that money, I might be concerned, but interest on savings is a joke.

Anyhow, all set for another year.

Historically, at least in the short amount of time I've been paying attention, oil prices tend to dip when a presidential election nears.  If I remember correctly Henry, you pre-purchased around this time of year back in 2008 and then the prices dropped significantly.  Of course, I understand the benefit and peace of mind of being able to know exactly what you'll need to spend.  I remember reading a quote a long time ago that said something like "never prepay for fuel in an election year".  Now granted, I don't actually expect it to dip much lower than it already is, I'm just adding my 2 cents :)

(I'll probably prebuy some too)
