Many of our Fairfax Friendly Senior Citizens will remember Mary Burt as a member of their group attending the bi-monthly Senior Citizens Luncheons:

Mary A. Burt

Waterville - Mary A. Burt, 86 passed away at her home on July 1st, 2012 surrounded by her family.  Mary was born in London, England on October 25, 1925 daughter of the late George and Eva Neal of Southampton. While working as a telephone operator during WWII she met the love of her life PFC William H. Burt.  She left her homeland and followed Bill to Waterville, VT where they were married February 15, 1947 and raised five children.  She was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 35 and VT Overseas Wives Club.  She held various positions including nurse’s aide, Head Start teacher and veterinary office assistant and cared for many elderly in the community.  Much of her life was centered around the Waterville Church of the Nazarene as Sunday School teacher, superintendant, church board member and numerous other responsibilities.  She enjoyed writing the Waterville report for the News & Citizen.  Her beautiful penmanship adorned the many cards and letters written to those she loved throughout her life.  She accompanied each of her children and some grandchildren back to her homeland throughout the years.  Many will remember her as Aunt Mary.  Her favorites included tea, baking, knitting, reading, crafts, flowers, Jeopardy, the Red Sox and especially caring for her beloved Lizzy and Smokey. 
 
Mary is survived by three sons, William “Billy” Burt Jr. and his wife Linda Shively of Wasilla, AK; Mike Burt and his wife Ellen of Waterville; Charlie Burt and his wife Sherrie of Quincy, MA;  Two daughters, Jeni Burt of Sheldon; Joy Doane and her husband Tennyson of Bakersfield; Son-in-law Don Lynch of Waterville; Daughter-in-law Donna Burt of Waterville; Daughter-in-law Connie Cheney of St. Johnsbury; Grandchildren, Carrie Pontbriand, husband James and son Willem of Barre; William Burt III and daughters Maria and Hailey of Waterville; Michelle Knight and daughter Jordyn of St. Johnsbury; Mike Burt II and sons Gavin and Sawyer of Cambridge; Amy Naylor, husband Andy and children Dylan, Brooke and Haven of Waterville; Garren Burt of Quincy, MA; Nicholas Burt of Quincy, MA; Donnie Lynch Jr., Maurita and children Nicholas and Nathan of Waterville; Randi Lynch of Wilder; Tennyson Doane III, wife Jennie of Cleveland, OH; PFC Cameron Doane of Bakersfield; Caelyn Doane of Bakersfield; Nicholas Tillotson of  Portland, ME; many generations of nieces and nephews here and abroad including an especially devoted niece Lynne Duffy of Waterville and a special friend Mary Aldum of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

She was also predeceased by her husband of 56 years William H. Burt, her brother John Neal of Scotland, brothers- and sisters-in-law, her grandson Anderson Doane and a dear friend Marjorie Manchester.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 5, 2012 at the Waterville Church of the Nazarene from 5 – 8 PM.  Funeral services will be held at the Waterville Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 AM on Friday July 6, 2012 with the Reverend James Ainsworth officiating.  Interment will follow in the family lot in the Mountain View Cemetery in Waterville.  Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to:  Mary A.
