Terry E. Hill
Fairfax - Terry E. Hill, 66, passed away at his home on Saturday October 27, 2012, surrounded by his family and closest friends, follow a year-long battle with cancer. He was born Terrill Earl Hill in Barton, Vermont on March 30th, 1946, the son of Earl and Lucille Hill.
Terry was raised in Greensboro and spent his early years driving truck and working in the construction industry. He was blessed with an outstanding mechanical aptitude, and for years he owned and operated Hill Service Center in Milton, Vermont. Terry also worked several years in the Boat and Snowmobile program with the Vermont Department of Public Safety.
In the early 1990s he formally founded Terry Hill Inc., which grew to be a nationally known and respected trucking and transportation company. He dedicated his life into making it a successful business. From its base at the Catamount Industrial Park in Milton, Vermont, Terry Hill Inc. hauled Vermont based freight to points throughout the United States and Canada, and from anywhere in the country back to Vermont. At the company’s peak he employed as many as 75 drivers and staff, and owned and maintained a large fleet of tractor trailers and dump trucks.
Terry Hill Inc. was the culmination of business success in Terry’s life and he devoted countless hours in guiding it to a company to be proud of. Employees, associates and customers regarded him as a good friend, a true gentleman and a man of his word. He enjoyed the respect and friendship of his peers in the industry.
In 2009 Terry finally sold the company and retired to Craftsbury. There he found the time to relax and develop a passion for snowmobiling. Terry and his brother, Lanny, traveled extensively and often throughout trails of the Northeast Kingdom. Terry cherished those times.
When he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year he and Holly returned to Fairfax.
Those who knew Terry well will miss the kind and friendly gentleman devoted to his family and to his extended family and his former employees. His kindness and consideration can be measured by the countless acts of help and support he provided to everyone. He will be remembered as a compassionate and true friend, a tireless worker and an outstanding businessman.
In his passing Terry leaves his beloved wife, Holly (Chaffee) Hill, and their daughter Marissa Menard of Burlington; His son Terry Dean Hill of Morrisville; and his three children, Shawn, Brooke, and Stephaney; and a daughter Michele Adams and her husband Scott and their children Randi and Michael of Hyde Park.
