ANTHONY M. GOMEZ
FAIRFAX - Anthony Michael Gomez, age 27, passed away as the result of a brain tumor on Friday, November 23, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born in Burlington, Vermont on June 23, 1985 and was raised in Fairfax, Vermont.
Tony graduated from BFA-Fairfax as salutatorian of his class in 2003 and attended Saint Michael’s College. Tony was a silent, strong, and determined young man that always rose to any challenge. These characteristics were exemplified during the final two years of his life as he battled cancer with amazing perseverance and grace. While Tony was a man of few words, he selected his words well and made those around him laugh. He loved his family and spent numerous holidays, birthdays, and Sunday dinners by their side.
He was an avid runner that completed local races and the Stowe Marathon in 2004. He also had a passion for sports and movies with his favorite genres being action-thrillers and comedies. Tony was a skilled cook that could perfect any cuisine. He had the remarkable ability to eat food at a restaurant and then recreate and improve the dish. He always cooked special birthday meals for his loved ones. Tony also had an exceptional knowledge of electronics and technology and became his friends and families’ impromptu IT person.
His loving family includes his mother, Rebecca Gomez; brother, Steven Gomez; sister-in-law, Rebeka Lawrence-Gomez; sister, Jessica Gomez; grandmother, Charlotte Blum; aunts, Kimberly Herne and Deborah Tovey; uncles, Matt Schwarzman, Edward Tovey, and Robert Herne; cousins Patrick and Bridget Tovey; cousin, Karen Campbell, who assisted with Tony’s care in his final months; and other family members throughout northwestern Vermont.
