Title: Tourist Painting In The Center Of Town
Post by: Henry on May 05, 2007, 11:23:30 AM
Hi All,

Was driving back through the center of town and noticed a lady painting up on the edge of the lawn at the intersection of Main & Fletcher Roads.  Stopped and started up a little conversation which ended up in quite a long chat.  She had stopped for breakfast at the Foothills Bakery and was just very impressed with Fairfax, soooooo, she wasn't really prepared, but got out her materials and went up on the bank, spread out her materials and just started painting.  You will note that the highlight of her photo is the Steeple Market.  Of course I had to tell her about the old Ice Cream Parlor that used to be where she was sitting and the old buildings across the street, (Foothills Market and The Old Hardware Store Building).  Also told her about where she could find some old photos on the web of how the Fairfax Center used to look like.  Very nice lady from Massachusetts who has a son, I believe she said who lives in Milton.

Snapped the above photo as we were visiting and she continued painting

She told me if the photo comes out good, she will e-mail me a copy

Well, I received a very pleasant surprise today from the artist painting the photo in this post back on May 5, 2007:

Dear Henry Raymond,
A few years ago, I was sitting in Fairfax town center starting a painting of a scene at the center of Fairfax.

A nice gentleman came by and introduced himself and said something to me about being involved with a website of images for Fairfax.

I think it might have been you or someone who knew you.

Anyways, I heard from my nephew who lived near Fairfax that the steeple had burned down on one of the towns important buildings.

I thought I would send an image of the painting I did.

The image is on www.pepperenspaintings.com  (http://www.pepperenspaintings.com)

Also, I can send an attachment but wanted to warn you ahead of time so you will know it is coming.

Oh my goodness, I am so glad I found you !! And that you remembered me , I feel pretty honored and often talk about that day. The towns around there are so special , and  extremly valuable.

Joe Pepper  told me about the fire, and I just felt terrible about it. He lives  in Burlington now( was in Milton - I was able to do some paintings there too ) , and had heard about it , and probably  Joe still stops at that wonderful bakery.

I know there is only the steeple in the painting, but I am now doubly glad I did it.

I will immediately send the best image I can find.
Susan

Hi Henry ,
I called the painting "Reverse Road Sign , Fairfax Vermont " ( certainly the steeple reference somehow should be added below the title )
The Gallery that used to sell my work many years ago in Rhode Island, contacted me and bought that painting along with others about nine months ago.

I hope this particular JPEG is o.k., but if you need it of better quality let me know - I could even ask them to photograph it ever if needed.

Susan
You can also see it on my pepperenspaintings  website, but I discovered it is hard to download it from there.

I am glad we were able to get back in touch !

Our  daughter is now 11 - would you believe, and also if you even hear of a  piano concert with Joe Pepper's name ( in your area in Burlington) that is my nephew.

I hope to get back up there at some point soon and paint !.
Susan
