Each year, the library participates in a state-wide thematic Summer Reading Program which is designed to keep youth and teens reading throughout the summer months. Research shows that students can lose ground over the summer months if they are not actively engaged in learning.
Our program has proven to be very successful, with close to 200 students from toddlers to teens signing up to read books all summer. Each summer we offer special events and incentives to make visiting the library appealing and fun. All children who read receive a Summer Reading T-shirt, and can enter a drawing for prizes. The library’s annual budget includes funding for much of this program, from performers to supplies, certificates and more. In addition we will receive some funding support from the Vermont Department of Libraries, BFA-Fairfax Trustees and the Library Trustees.
However, our biggest prizes, which are a pair of bicycles – one for a boy and one for a girl - require additional funding. Earl’s Cyclery and Fitness in South Burlington supplies the bikes to us at a discount.
We are seeking new donors to help us purchase the bikes. We already have a donation for one of the bikes and are seeking funds for the other. The bikes cost $240 each.
If you could help with this purchase either in part or in full, we would so appreciate hearing from you! Please email the town librarian at fairfaxlibrarian@gmail.com or call the library at 849-2420 and speak to Debbie.
Thank you!
