DATE/TIME: 7/31/13; 23:59 hours
LOCATION: Interstate 89 Waterbury, VT
INCIDENT: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision
SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On 7/31/13 at approximately 23:59 hours, State Police in Middlesex responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 89 in the Town of Waterbury, VT.
Investigation indicates that a 22 year old male from Barre Vermont was traveling south on Interstate 89 when for an unknown reason, he drifted off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle traveled through the median, across both northbound lanes of travel and collided with a section of guardrail along the east side of the roadway. The vehicle then traveled back across the median, across both south bound lanes of travel and came to rest along a section of guardrails along the west side of the roadway.
The operator was transported to the Central Vermont Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The male was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington where an autopsy will be performed.
State Police continue to investigate the collision. Speed does not appear to be a factor. State Police are withholding the name of the male operator involved until notification of family can be made.
