According to tonight’s St. Albans Messenger the BFA Fairfax teachers’ contract has been signed. Things apparently went very well for both sides. The negotiations began in November 2006 and ended on a positive note with the final contract being signed on May 15, 2006.
The current contract was due to expire on June 30, 2007.
The new contract includes a projected 4.34 percent average salary increase over the next three years. Teachers agreed to pay an additional one percent towards insurance benefits, which translates to a contribution of 18 percent by the year 2010.
Teachers will be receiving additional benefits in both dental and long term disability.
Teachers will return to school up to five days earlier than in previous years beginning in the Fall of 2007. Teachers will also be prepaid for college courses, rather than the current reimbursement schedule.
By the school year 2008-09, there will be an addition of two student days per year, increasing the number of days from 175 to 177 school days.
