2007 Ducky Race winners are….
-First place was Sue Kuehn of Fairfax who won $200
-Second place was little Lauren Dunbar of Fairfax who won $100 (her sister’s duckie won last year’s race….definitely the family to beat!)
-Third place was Rob Schukei who won $50 (who in past years, was in a canoe helping with the duckie herding, but he wasn’t in the water this year, so his duckie must have been racing to find him because his duckie won!)
The river was moving fast from all the rainfall, so the race was a fast one this year, with the race taking 45 minutes.
Thank you to all the Fairfax businesses who help make this all happen, without their cooperation of selling all those Duckie tickets, we couldn’t do this. The profits from the race will help with costs associated with implementing new recreation programs, like the Summer Beach Days for youth. More programs will be offered this upcoming fall. Anyone interested in providing input and facilitating recreation opportunities in Fairfax, please consider attending our Fairfax Recreation Programming Committee meetings. Also thank you to Randy Mead, Kyle Mead, David Keefe, Devin Keefe and Frank Wells for herding those duckies to the finish line. We couldn’t have the race without your efforts! Thank you to Sue, Brad & Ben Bosland for sorting and pulling those duckies (for the past eight years!!!)! Thank you to the Filiberti’s and Jane Longley for relaying those duckie positions to the crowd following the duckies along River Road and at the finish line.
For next year, we’re already talking about incorporating a “Ducky Raft Parade” on the river!
