DOROTHY ANNA PORTE
POMFRET/WILDER — Dorothy “Dotty“ Porte, 91, passed away on the evening of Aug. 6, 2013, in Birchwood Terrace in Burlington, of Alzheimer’s disease.
Dorothy was born on July 25, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of the late Oscar and Hilda Gefvert, both of Sweden. Dorothy Porte graduated from Upper Darby High School, located outside Philadelphia, in 1940. As a young girl, she always enjoyed Swedish folk dancing and her beloved family. She had two brothers who predeceased her, Arthur Gevfert of Quakertown, Pa., and Howard Gevfert of Radnor, Pa.
Dorothy married Joseph Adam Zang Jr. in Philadelphia on Jan. 13, 1945. Her two sons survive her, Dean Stephen Zang Sr. of Bel Air, Md., and Daniel Joseph Zang of Fairfax, Vt. Dorothy later married Richard Porte Jr.
of Berwyn, Pa., in 1967. In 1968, Dorothy and Richard moved from Newtown Square, Pa., to Pomfret, Vt. Dorothy had a wide variety of interests including gardening, millinery, making clothing, reupholster work, computers and keeping up with the technology age.
Her persistence of her interests always netted amazing results! Dorothy was a homemaker and later founded, owned and operated “Porte Personnel Service,“ a successful personnel agency that was located in Villanova, Pa.
Later in life, Dorothy was employed at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H., where she worked up until she was 82 years old.
She was blessed with three grandsons, Dean Stephen Zang Jr., currently residing in Arlington, Va., Christopher David Zang living in Towson, Md., and Daniel Joseph Zang II of Fairfax, Vt.; as well one great-grandchild, Carter Joseph Zang of Arlington, Va.
The family would like to thank the staff of Birchwood Terrace “A Wing - Special Care Unit“ for all their tireless efforts in keeping Dorothy comfortable during her eight year stay at the facility.
Am emorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct.
19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the North Pomfret Congregational Church -United Church of Christ, Pomfret Road, North Pomfret.
