IRENE (NOLAN) GODFREY

MILTON - Irene (Nolan) Godfrey, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in St. Albans Health and Rehab in St. Albans. She was born in Waterville on Jan. 19, 1932, daughter of the late R. Kenneth and Bertha (Archambalt) Nolan. Irene loved life dearly and before her illness she would enjoy many evenings with close friends at fiddle meets, square dancing, bus trips and gambling. Irene also enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before her illness, she could be found crawling on the floor playing with the great-grandbabies. Irene also had a great love of country music and could be found in her final days sleeping to the sound of an acrostic guitar playing her favorite songs. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carol Jones of the St. Albans Health and Rehab for the extra time she took to give Irene this comfort. She is survived by her son, Dale Godfrey and wife, Denise, of Fairfax; daughter, Wanda Cobb-Rozell of Milton; brother, Earl Nolan of Grand Isle; and sisters-in-law, Donna Nolan of St. Albans, and Sylvia Nolan of Underhill. Irene also leaves behind four grandchildren, Joseph Cobb and fiancee, Missy Rollo, of St. Albans, Stacy Cobb and partner, Kevin LaBree, of Georgia, Justin Godfrey and wife, Rachel, of Utah, and Jessica Stevens of Highgate; four great-grandchildren, Evann Cobb, Sophia and Jacoby Godfrey, and Gunnr Stevens; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her husband, Walter; her companion, Reginald Tatro; brothers, Donald Nolan, Leonard Nolan, and Robert Nolan; sister, Loretta Sheehan; and son-in-law, Mark Rozell. As Irene's favorite song, by Buck Owens, states they are all: "Together again, The gray skies are gone, You're back in my arms, Now where you belong." The family would like to extend their thanks to Care Partners of St. Albans and the St. Albans Health and Rehab of St. Albans for the wonderful care they gave Irene before her passing. Private family services and interment were held in the family lot in Underhill Flats Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Irene's memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hegman Ave., Colchester, VT 05446; or a charity of your choice. A.W. Rich Funeral Home and the family invite you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com.
