Ardis J. (Palmer) Barkyoumb
St. Petersburg FL - Ardis June (Palmer) Barkyoumb, 87 passed away on Saturday June 28, 2014 at Menorah Manor Nursing Home in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born on June 9, 1927 in Dexter ME daughter of the late Frank and Eudora (Alexander) Palmer. Ardis graduated in 1945 from Berwick Academy, South Berwick, ME and the McIntosh Business School in Dover, NH in 1946 and the New Hampshire College in Manchester, NH in 1978. She was employed for 24 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME and retired in 1984. She married Walden Kempton Barkyoumb in 1957 in Portsmouth, NH. Walden predeceased her on January 18, 1984. Ardis was a long-time resident of the Princess Martha in St. Petersburg and a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. She was a past president of the Maine State Society in St. Petersburg, FL. She was also active in the “Adopt a Grandchild Program”. She looked forward to attending Binghamville United Methodist Church in Fletcher, Vt when she was in the area.
She is survived by her son John Barkyoumb and his wife Bonnie of Kensington, MD; her beloved granddaughter Ellie Barkyoumb of MD; her “adoptive granddaughter” Carlyn Mamber of Amsterdam, NL, her brothers Alton Palmer of Durbin WV; Keith Palmer and wife Patricia of Newfield, ME; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by her brother Harold Palmer in 1944.
Per Ardis’ wishes there will be no public visiting hours held. A funeral services will be held at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax, VT 05454 on Wednesday July 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery, Fairfax. Memorial contributions in Ardis’ memory may be made to the Walden K. Barkyoumb Scholarship Fund, c/o BFA-Fairfax, 75 Hunt St, Fairfax, VT 05454 or to the Binghamville United Methodist Church, c/o Charles Tinker, 629 Fairfax Rd., Cambridge, VT 05444.
