JOYCE M. MERCIER
FAIRFAX - Joyce M. Mercier, 81 of Fairfax, Vt., died Jan. 28, 2015 at the Medical Center Hospital in Burlington, Vt., surrounded by her loving children after a short illness. Born in Franklin, N.H., on June 18, 1933 she was the daughter of Ernest L. and Viola (Michaud) Astbury.
Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a military wife for 20 years. She loved all sports but was a devoted football fan
of the Pittsburgh Steelers and lived for Super Bowl Sunday. Joyce was a communicant of St. Luke's Parish, in Fairfax, Vt.
Joyce leaves her four children, Gail DeWitt (David) of Fredericksburg, Va., Deborah Decelles (Alain) of Sheldon, James Mercier of Watervilet, N.Y., and George Mercier (Roxanne) of Essex Junction, Vt., eight grandchildren, Eric (Georgie) Halbach, Keri Halbach, Carl (Patty) Halbah, Jessica DeWitt, Hilary (Brady) Therrien, Sarah (Andrew) Cheney, EmilyRose Mercier, Lucas Mercier, and Nicholas Mercier, two great grand-children, Blake Halbach and Molly Halbach. Joyce was predeceased in death by her parents, sister Jean (Ahearn) Bryant, and former spouse Richard L. Mercier.
Joyce also touched many others during her lifetime including special friends, Jim and Shirley Kuhn, Jean Kelley; Joan Farrar, Wendell and Elaine Sweat, Eileen Mercier, Linda Messick and numerous other friends and relatives. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held in the Spring at the families discretion, interment will take place in St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery.
