Patricia "Pat" Lyon-Surrey was tragically taken from us when she was struck by a vehicle while bicycling on Sunday, Jan. 24th in Tucson, Arizona. She was born in Binghamton, NY on May 9th, 1945. Pat was the daughter of the late Martin Buchta and Pauline Buchta. On July 29th, 1963 she married Robert "Bob" Lyon. They moved to Vermont in 1969. Bob died unexpectedly on May 12th, 1981. On May 5th, 1991, Pat married Roger Surrey.

Pat loved Vermont and the ample opportunities it offered to spend time outside. She was an avid biker, skier, kayaker, and hiker. She was more active and fit than most people half her age. She was also passionate about her photography, taking amazing photos of beautiful landscapes, as well as macro photography and exploratory images using scanners and silhouettes. Of course when she got together with her 3 sons or her great-grandchildren pictures were mandatory, whether they liked it or not.

She also loved to travel. It was on a trip to New Zealand she met Roger for the first time. She had many friends and relatives who helped her to go on many amazing trips. It was on such a trip where this terrible accident occurred.

Pat was predeceased by her first husband Bob Lyon and her father Martin Buchta. Pat is survived by her mother Pauline Buchta; by her husband Roger of Wolcott, VT; three sons, Jeffrey and his partner Samantha Keras of South Burlington, VT, Timothy and his wife Sherry of Starksboro, VT, Christian and his wife Molly of Fairfax, VT; six brothers, Richard and wife Dianne, Robert and wife Tracey, David and wife Donna, James, Martin and wife Kathy. and Michael and wife Deborah; three sisters, Suzanne and husband Timothy Bradley, Christine Geller, and Teresa and husband Richard Edwards; two grandchildren, Brandy Thorpe and partner Shawn Murray, Richard Hollenbeck and partner Bev Demass; six great-grandchildren, Sevren, Clayton, Sawyer, Soloman, Victoria and Malaki. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial to celebrate Pat's life will be held at the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, VT on February 27th from 1 to 5 pm. Donations in Pat's memory may be made to the Lamoille Community Food Share at lcfood share.org or the Vermont Walk-Bike Coalition at localmotion.org.
