WEST PARIS - Constance Laura Walton Bacon, 74, of West Paris, died Oct. 2, at Ledgeview Living Center (LLC), after a long period of illness.Connie was born in March 1933, in Lewiston to William and Ida (Webb) Walton. One of nine children, she grew up for the most part in Lewiston and was educated in Lewiston schools, graduating from Lewiston High in 1951.On May 28, 1955, she married Vance Ralph Bacon and lived in South Paris and Norway, until 1966, when they bought their house in West Paris and made it their home for the next 39 years. Even though failing health intervened, they continued to live in town, first moving to Mountain View Apartments and then to LLC, where they had resided since the fall of 2006.In 2005, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a gathering of family and friends. She was very active in the West Paris community. She was a member for many years of the West Paris Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary as secretary and treasurer. She was also a dispatcher for the West Paris Fire Department.She was an original member of Tri-Town Ambulance and Emergency Rescue Service, serving in the auxiliary and as an in-service dispatcher. She was a Cub Scout den leader and was the town clerk for one year. She belonged to the West Paris Historical Society and served as secretary. She was also librarian for the West Paris Public Library for several years.She and Vance were well-known at the Cathedral Pines Camping Area and in the village of Stratton. This was their premier camping spot for many years, which they enjoyed with their circle of friends.She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna in Norway and had worked for many years in the insurance industry in the Oxford Hills area.She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Vance; daughter, Kathleen Bessette and her husband, Robert, of Fairfax, Vt.; son, Kenneth Bacon and his wife, Cheryl Broberg Bacon, of Otisfield; two brothers, William Walton Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Sabattus and Frank Walton and his wife, Charlotte, of Lisbon; two sisters, Patricia McCollough of Rumford and Doris Albert and her husband, Anthony, of Lewiston; granddaughter, Emily Wills and her husband, Justin; and two grandsons, Marc and Timothy Bessette, all of Fairfax, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her parents, William and Ida (Webb) Walton; a brother, Leo Walton; and sisters, Mary Nichols, Carolyn Atwood and Veronica Malia.
BACON - Constance Laura Walton, 74, died in West Paris, Oct. 2. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Andrews Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 5 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Paris Street, Norway on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Wayside Cemetery, West Paris.
