Title: Colchester Senior Housing Bans Smoking - No Grandfather Clause Here
Post by: Henry on November 02, 2007, 07:40:44 AM
Hi All,

I am sure what I am going to say is not going to set well with a lot of people, but a while back, my wife Maryann, who is a smoker, said that someday this would happen.  At the time, I thought, "This will never happen."  I believe that Hawks Nest in St. Albans is managed by the same group.  Below is part of the article and how an individual who has lived in this place in Burlington for over 10 years feels:

"The move pits Cathedral Square against residents such as Reginald Peters, 72, who has lived at Holy Cross since it opened a decade ago. He is a self-described heavy smoker who said it is inappropriate to ban smoking from an apartment -- his home -- on which he pays rent.

"They're invading our privacy," Peters said. "They're taking our freedom."

The Holy Cross smoking ban went into effect Oct. 1, but Peters said he is not giving up the fight to allow smoking in his apartment. He said he doesn't bother anyone, especially since virtually everyone in his wing of the building where he lives smokes. "

I don't believe that type of housing is in the future for this Raymond Household unless there was a written agreement of some sort that this type of thing would not occur.  I just wonder what would happen if they said or made a rule that Alcoholic Beverages would not be allowed in any of these places.  I bet there would be a real uproar then.
