ESSEX JUNCTION -- Construction will begin at the Five Corners in Essex Junction starting April 28 and will continue through October.
Work will start at about 6:30 a.m. and will continue through 4:30 p.m. daily.
The Essex Police Department is requesting motorists seek alternative routes if possible during these times, as delays are expected. Local businesses will be open for business as usual.

Given the traffic flows at this major intersection, why isn't the construction done at night ? The drive impact would be greatly reduced.

Because people don't want to work at night. You'd have to pay them more, blah blah blah. The workers would come up with any a number of excuses.
I agree whole heartedly about doing the work at night. But, that is the truth. Then you'd have the residents that would complain about the noise, the truck traffic, the lighting used. Again, blah blah blah. It is "easier" to inconvenience many than just a few to get a job done.
