A brush fire was reported in Fairfax this morning about 8:30 a.m., but was put out before the Fire Department responded.
I believe this was the first brush fire here in town since Duane put the ban on open burning. I guess we are one of the few towns around with the ban on burning.
On Channel 3 News last night at 11 p.m., they reported the following:
"Dry conditions and strong winds continue to prompt wildifire concerns across the state... Crews from St. Albans town battled a fire this afternoon caused by a careless homeowner. Officials say the resident of Fairfax road was using a burn barrel and neglected to put it out all the way. They say he woke up from a nap later to find an acre of field and woods in back of his neighbors house ablaze. Fire officials say a burn permit and more importantly -- common sense -- is required for anyone trying to burn right now."
I didn't think that burning in barrels was legal any time??
