St. Albans Police are cracking down on violence and crime. Friday, they partnered up with the Vermont State Police and several federal agencies to patrol the streets.
More than 25 officers hit the streets of St. Albans Friday night looking for illegal drug and gang activity. This is in response to a continuing increase of crime throughout the city.
Over the past three weeks police responded to almost four hundred incidents ranging from assaults, robberies, hate graffiti and the selling of illegal drugs.
The plan is for officers to be stopping cars, gathering information, hoping to lower crime and illegal drug use. Police will also be patrolling parts of Georgia and Fairfax.
"This has become a pattern that were uncomfortable with that were attempting to address by creating a very high profile presence and doing some saturation patrol work," St. Albans Police Chief Gary Taylor said.
Cops say this is a continuing effort to keep the City safe and the problem won't get solved in just one night. Police plan on having more operations like this in the near future.
