Michael Manning, 22, of Northfield is facing a simple assault charge after he hit Gov. Jim Douglas in the face with a cream pie while the governor was marching in the Montpelier Independence Day parade, Thursday evening.
Douglas's campaign coordinator Denise Casey says the governor was not injured and he continued in the parade after cleaning his face.
Police say Manning will be charged with simple assault.
Witnesses say Manning was wearing a Santa Claus suit.
Barre Mayor Thomas Lauzon says he was walking with Douglas and helped wrestle Manning to the ground.
