Well, despite the strong predictions of a serious storm last night, we made it through and it wasn't that bad. Yesterday was the St. Anne's Annual Chicken Barbecue, put on by The Knights of Columbus in Milton, and is probably the best Chicken Barbecue around. They don't give you a whole half chicken in the take-out, but it is absolutely delicious the way they do it. They also include a pasta salad, a cabbage salad, potato salad and homemade baked beans and you get a choice of Carrot Cake or Chocolate Cake, which comes in a separate container. It appeared that they were serving it buffet style when I payed for my take-outs.
Mary Kay came over and stayed with Maryann when I went over to pick up my take-outs around 5 p.m. As I started out, I could see what appeared to be a serious storm coming in and hoped I would make it without some trees blowing down over the Milton cross-cut. As I drove down the hill past Joe Rainville's a tremendous gust of wind hit my car and all I could think of was the Tornado of 73 that hit up through that area, but that was about it for the wind. When I got down to the village, people in the center of the village were looking up at the skies and down by Swansons, I could see a group of people rushing to tear down a tent, then up at J & L, saw Jeff and another guy also looking up at the sky. There were also some people rushing around over at McNall's Football Field.
Made me kind of wonder if I ought to head back home and had missed some bigger storm warning, but the visions of that wonderful Barbecued Chicken Dinner spurred me on. The Milton Cross Cut is noted for having a lot of downed trees and I began to mull over in my mind if I should come back over Route 7 and 104A on my way back home, but rememembering that there have been three tornados since 1900 that have hit the Gilles Rainville Farm thought, maybe I will just take my chances and come back this way.
Just before I got into Milton, it started raining quite heavily, but no big winds and came back without any big problem. As I came up the Fletcher Road past the town garage, ahead of me I could see some blinking red lights. When I got up to the Wilkins Road, could see a fire truck headed down that road, but other than that, my trip in the storm was quite uneventful.
One note of interest however, the guy that served me my take-out happened to be the father of Greg Beaudoin who's barn and house were destroyed by the storm up in North Cambridge.
By the way, Maryann, Mary Kay and I enjoyed our take-out Barbecued Chicken Dinner tremendously - It was worth the effort.

Hi Henry. Just thought I would give credit where credit was due...all the salads at the Knights of Columbus Chicken barbeque were provided by the Daughters of Isabella in Milton.
On another note, being as I am a resident of Milton, I did lose power for about 3 hrs on Thursday night right at the beginning of the storm (about 8:20p) but it seems it was confined to just my area as a transformer was hit by lightening somehwere near the Milton Rent-All. Needless to say it got pretty warm without my a/c or fans and all the candles lit.
