Title: Barn Census This Weekend
Post by: MikeF9 on July 31, 2008, 08:12:21 PM
Many apologies on this. Things have been very busy that I keep forgetting to post this.
There is a barn census this weekend. Below is the e-mail I got about it. I will be busy this weekend, but if anyone else would like to be a part of this, that would be great.

For all the stuff, like worksheets, Letter of Introduction, and more, go to:

Dear Barn Census Volunteer,

We hope that you will be able to participate in the first Barn Census weekend this Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3.   Whether you can survey one barn or many, your participation is greatly appreciated!

You will find the worksheet [link] for recording information about the barn(s) on the Barn Census website www.uvm.edu/~barn , along with instructions on how to complete it.  You can print them out, as well as a Letter of Introduction [link] that identifies you as a Barn Census volunteer and gives some information about the project for barn owners.   The website also includes a Short History of Barns [link], and a Visual Glossary of barn terminology [link].

If you have questions or problems related to the Barn Census that need immediate attention this weekend, you can reach a Division staff person at 802-828-1220 between 10am and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

With your help, we expect to identify thousands  of barns in the Barn Census.

Have fun!   Thank you!   And Good Luck!

The project is the initiative of  a group of partners concerned with the disappearance of Vermont's agricultural heritage: Vermont Division for Historic Preservation; University of Vermont  Program in Historic Preservation;  Preservation Education Institute; Vermont Housing and Conservation Board; Preservation Trust of Vermont; and Save Vermont Barns.   Funding support comes from the Preserve America Program through the National Park Service, and from the Vermont Legislature.
