VELCO to cut power for substation upgrade

JOHNSON -- Vermont electric Cooperative Inc. officials announced that significant system upgrades will be made at the Fairfax 1 substation this month.

The distribution lines connected to the substation supply electricity to members in Fairfax, Fairfield, Fletcher, Georgia and St. Albans. Severe storms, and aging substation and transmission line equipment have caused more failures than expected.

The upgrades will improve the service to about 1,100 of the company's 34,000 customers.

A planned power shutdown is scheduled to complete the construction from 11:30 a.m. today to noon Thursday (rain date Friday).

We had a power blip yesterday morning, but that was a short one and may have been caused by them working or switching something.

Well, at about 11:25, shut down the computers and anxiously awaited the planned power outage at 11:30 yesterday.  At 11:50, no power outage, everything was on.  Called the power company to see if there was going to be an outage and they said it was all done and had taken about 15 minutes.

Guess we weren't on the power outage list

Thanks for the update, Henry.
I was out of town, but heard we had not lost power.
