Title: Man With Walker Hitch Hiking On Main Street
Post by: Henry on September 10, 2008, 06:36:48 AM
Last night on my way up to Mass around 6:45 p.m. when I got in the area of The Old McArdle House, saw a man with a walker hitch hiking.  Couldn't believe my eyes and although I was going North and he was going South, was going to turn around and check on him.  As I got closer, a car coming South stopped and I checked my rear view mirrow and they were talking to him.

Not sure what the problem might have been and didn't recognize the elderly gentleman with the walker, but difficult to understand why someone with a walker would be hitch hiking.

There was one Tuesday night a while back, as I was headed to the fire station, that I noticed him heading north. He had his walker and was almost in the middle of the road. At the station, we were almost expecting to get called out for an accident.
I wonder if he lives in the new senior housing.

I have received several notes regarding him.  He does live in Village Green and sometimes goes to the extreme of throwing himself on the ground pretending to fall to get a ride.  Apparently he recently lost his license.  Hadn't heard about his walking up the middle of the road.  Suspect it won't take long for the locals to wise up.  This may end up like the little boy who cried "wolf" once too often and sometime he may really be in need and people will ignore him.

Hopefully he doesn't go to the extreme of throwing himself in front of a car to make sure they stop.
