When I was putting out the trash this morning, looked around and noticed all the things I should have done this summer. Oh Well!! Sucks to be me, but I know we are about to enter the most beautiful time of year here in Vermont. Just as a side benefit, grass will remain green, but grow much slower - Shucks!! There was a beautiful harvest moon last night early and I suspect we will have another tonight.
Most of Vermont is likely to experience its first frost and freeze of the season Thursday night.
A dry but strong cold front will pass through Vermont tonight, bringing chilly air from northern Canada, said National Weather Service forecasters in South Burlington. The front will bring little if any rain.
Temperatures will stay below 60 degrees Thursday despite sunshine, then readings will plummet after dark. A combination of clear skies, light winds and very dry air will create ideal conditions for a cold night.
Most towns in Vermont will see temperatures in the 20s to low 30s by dawn Friday, forecasters said. Friday’s Burlington record low of 32 degrees, set in 1959, could be threatened. People can protect some of their garden plants by covering them with sheets or tarps.
Areas close to the warm waters of Lake Champlain will likely stay warmer and avoid frosts.
Temperatures will recover to near normal levels this weekend, with highs in the 60s to near 70 and lows in the 40s, forecasters said.
