Federal inspectors found only a few minor problems at Vermont Yankee during a recent engineering review of the nuclear plant.
Yankee is under close scrutiny as its owners attempt to get a new operating license. High profile problems, including cooling tower leaks, have undermined public confidence in the plant.
Inspectors from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission spent 700 hours reviewing plant operations this summer. They found only three problems-- considered of "very low safety significance."
Safety issues are expected to be paramount in the decision on whether to grant Yankee a new license.
