Title: Garage That Brad Built Dedicated To D. Francis Howrigan
Post by: Henry on October 27, 2008, 08:41:18 AM
Was reading the letters to the Editor in the St. Albans Messenger, the other day and came across a letter that said that the Town of Fairfield, on October 19, 2008, dedicated its Town Garage to the late Senator D. Francis Howrigan.  Francis was born in Fletcher at the Howrigan Homestead on Howrigan Road and as a young man at the age of 20, started his political career in the Town of Fletcher as a Selectman.  He later moved to Fairfield on a farm between Fairfield Center and East Fairfield and then became a Selectman, a position which he held for the next 50 years.  In 1974 he became a Senator.  I don't have his date of death, but believe it was in the early 1990s.  Francis was the father of Rita (Howrigan) Magnan and also the brother of former BFA Teacher, Loretta (Howrigan) Magnan.

Brad Meunier and his crew from here in Fairfax was hired by the Town of Fairfield to be the paid contractor to build the Town Garage and it was built in typical Old Fairfield Barn Raising style, with many volunteers.  The letter to the Editor complimented not only the nice Town Garage that was built, but the cost, which was extremely reasonable.  It was truly very fitting that it be dedicated to this long time Fairfield Public Servant.

Having had Brad Meunier do some work for me when Maryann and I converted our attached garage to a handicapped accessible bedroom, add a ramp and also a detached garage, I personally compliment them for their choice in their paid contractor.  He is certainly a very nice hard working young man who did a great job for Maryann and I.
