Title: Would You Stand In Line 3 Hours To Vote??
Post by: Henry on November 03, 2008, 08:47:17 AM

Was watching the news last night and saw where some early voters were waiting 3 hours to vote - I wonder how many Fairfax, Vermont voters would wait in line 3 hours to vote??

Members of the Civil Board and other helpers will be doing their best to make sure there is no wait time down here in Fairfax - Donna has done a great job in organizing her workers.

That is why I early voted.  One thing that is "bothering" me is the first time voters.  Not the 18 year olds, but the much older.  There was a recent interview that was played on the radio, that was speaking to a 58 year old male that never voted before.  Why now and all of a sudden?

Many candidates have been successful in getting people registered to vote - even those who could have, but chose not to for years. We all hear of voter apathy - 'why bother to vote, my one vote isn't going to make any difference'. In many cases, people aren't voting FOR someone, they are casting their vote against someone. People listen to the polls, and even before the election, candidates are projected to be the winner in a given state. It may come down to our upbringing of wanting to win. Whether you play bingo, or tennis, or baseball, you want to win or be on the winning team. If the polls predict that the candidate that you support has little chance of winning, there maybe little incentive in going to vote.

Why now? A lot of people want to see change.

WHO cares when they finally woke up and realized that unless they vote - All their complaining about the current 'condition' in the US, means nothing and in fact SHOUDL fall on deaf ears.  Voting is your civic duty- whether you like it or not.

That doesn't mean i don't understand the disenfranchised voters, who either heard of or experienced themselves a election fiasco.  HELL, i would've been disenfranchised by the 2000 elections if my parents didn't hammer home at a young age, that i HAD to vote no matter what.

The only issue i have with formerly non-voting folks, is that is the same ignorance that made them not vote, going to come into play when they're choosing a candidate?  "cause that's a scary thought!

My thoughts exactly Loc....that is what scares me.  Some of the candidates have the world believing that the world will be all sunshine and roses after Nov. 4th.
