Police: Two women caught stealing from Wal-Mart

WILLISTON -- Two 21-year-old women from St. Albans are facing a retail theft charge for allegedly stealing from Wal-Mart, said Williston police.

Police said they responded to Wal-Mart Monday night for a shoplifting complaint. An investigation revealed that Krystie Dumont and Krystal Berger selected and removed store merchandise without paying for it.

When I read this, I thought back to when Howard Parsons had his store where Vermont Food Ventures is.  I remember going in one day and one of our local individuals was in there near the wines that were on a shelf.  I saw him quickly grab one of the bottles of wine off the shelf and put it inside his jacket.  He then proceded to come to the front of the store and casually visited with Larry Parsons, then left.  I just stood there kind of shocked as I knew this individual quite well.

After he left, I said to Larry, "Do you know he took a bottle of wine off the shelf?"  Larry calmly replied, "Oh yes, everytime he leaves, we go to the shelf and check it.  Where he takes a bottle, there is a clean spot in the dust on the shelf, and we just keep a tab for his son-in-law and he pays us for it."

Now, that's small town control, although I bet today things are not the same.  I think some of our local stores have surveillance cameras, but have never checked to see where they are.
