Many of you will not remember this day, but I am sure that many of you will have heard stories of what happened and how it effected the lives of many. Very few families, if any, did not have a member who was drafted and went off to war, many of whom never returned or else came back in back shape. We did not have the communications that we do today, so hearing from a loved one, or them hearing from those at home was not a frequent thing. This was a time when many women took on new rolls in the workplace as few men were left behind in the workplace. Although we as farmers did not notice it quite as much, food rationing, gas rationing and the inability to buy many items was curtailed.
