I believe the rest stop was similar to the one we have down near Colchester on Interstate 89 that is used for weighing trucks - Apparently we don't have that problem up here???
The state has closed two Interstate 91 rest areas amid complaints about drug use and sexual activity.
The rest areas, located on the Springfield-Rockingham town line, were plagued by discarded hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia and unwanted solicitations for sex.
Lt. Rick Hopkins of the Vermont State Police says there's a history of illicit activity at the rest areas, and that police regularly get complaints about it.
The rest stops were closed Dec. 1, although they'll continue to be used for truck inspections. Gates are being installed.
John Zicconi, a spokesman for the Vermont Agency of Transportation, said that about 15 years ago, the same action was taken for a rest area on Interstate 89 in Colchesster after complaints of illicit activity there.
