Title: St. Luke's CCD Assists With Christmas Baskets Yesterday
Post by: Henry on December 22, 2008, 08:41:06 AM
The St. Luke's Christmas Baskets were assembled and delivered yesterday, with the assistance of CCD Children.  This year something special was done and added to the baskets.  Christmas Cards, addressed to parishioners who are unable to join others at Mass, due to age or illness, were placed on a table in the back of the Church and parishioners were asked to sign these cards to show their care and concern for them.  Maryann happened to be a recipient of one of these baskets.  Maryann has been a St. Luke Parishioner all of her life and the card proved to be a very special and emotional touch to the Christmas Basket, when as she read the names it brought tears to her eyes.

Chris Racine rang the doorbell yesterday afternoon and when I answered he said he would be right back.  I asked him to use the rear door with the ramp, as I didn't have the front shovelled.  When I went out back to open the door for him, up the ramp comes this little boy, with an angelic face, carrying this big Christmas Basket, which I knew had to be for Maryann, as she has received one every year for a number of years.  This year, because of the little boy delivering it, it made it extra special and it actually brought tears to my eyes, knowing St. Luke's was doing something special for someone I love.

Over the years I have heard the song and heard homilist say the phrase, "Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto me."  For the first time in my 75 plus years I truly understand the phrase, because it is true that when someone does something for someone you love, they actually do it for you.

I trust that the Parishioners who signed the cards, others who organized and set up the baskets and the CCD Children who assisted in this project perhaps have no idea what a wonderful thing they have done.  They certainly have fulfilled the meaning of Christmas and we are truly grateful for them.
