Title: Full Wolf Moon
Post by: Julie & 6pt Dave on January 10, 2009, 10:46:16 PM
Snapped this just before the clouds moved in.  Hope the clouds move out before moonrise tomorrow for another photo-op.
The following is from 'The Old Farmer's Almanac'

• Full Wolf Moon - January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January's full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.

Henry,

I saw your moon pic from Saturday.

Attached is MINE I snapped with my phone around 4pm here in Anchorage on Friday.
Sorta makes you think who is looking at the moon the same time or so when you are!!

This moon is called the Wolf Moon up here, so I read today in the paper. Never heard that before.  Mike Raburn

I took my photo around 4:30 p.m. and have it in a different post and am not sure at what time Julie took hers.  Not sure what our time difference is between where Mike lives up in Alaska and here in Fairfax.  Lots of people apparently looking up at this moon last night from all over the world.

Mike,  The next full moon ( February 9th ) will feature a penumbral eclipse which will be fully visible from Alaska.  The moon will enter penumbra at 3:37 a.m. AKST and leave penumbra at 7:40 a.m. AKST.  We here in the East will miss this one as the moon will have set before the event starts.

Chris says on his web site that there is a beautiful Full Moon out there, however, up here on the Fletcher Road it is 1 below zero, so I think I will forego going out and taking a photograph as there is no way I can get a photo unless I go outside.  I see from Julie's weather station it is 5 degrees above zero over there.  We have a number of clouds up here, but the moon appears to be in a clear spot.

Chris is right !!   Another beautiful view of the Wolf moon.  My Henry it does get cold in the 'Hollows'.  At a balmy 5 degrees above zero I was able to get a couple of pics of the Wolf moon tonight.  I apologize for the dark exposure.   Still learning.

The moon is coming up behind Buck Mountain.  With a good eye you can see the trees.

In this shot the moon has cleared Buck Mountain.
