Vermont's legislative leaders say deep state budget cuts will not be needed after all. Democrats say the federal stimulus will cover this year's budget deficit and most of next year's.
It's expected Vermont will get $1 billion from that stimulus package. Democratic leaders say that's five times the amount they were expecting. It's money they want to use to balance the budget. But they also say this is a short-term fix and long-term solutions are still needed.
