And the rest of the story is:

The Vermont State Police says a Shelburne police officer shot and wounded a man who hit the officer with a car in a convenience store parking lot.

Police say 45-year-old Kelley O'Brien of Burlington was hit in the torso by a shot fired Friday evening by Shelburne Police Officer Robert Barrows.

O'Brien is hospitalized in stable condition.

Barrows suffered minor injuries in the incident that began after police received a report of an erratic driver.

Police say O'Brien allegedly drove his vehicle at Barrows, prompting the officer to shoot, and then hit another vehicle as his car continued on Shelburne Road. O'Brien was taken into custody a short distance away.

O'Brien is facing a variety of charges.
