Stopped by to see Ben Young this morning at his home on Richards Road. Ben was born in Fairfield, up near Fairfield Pond on March 29, 1919 and for the last 64 years has lived here in Fairfax. Back in 1953, when I moved to Fairfax, Ben & Theresa (Sloan) Young were running the farm where Claude & Chris Rainville live now on the Fletcher Road. He was running it for Mrs. Laura Minor, whose husband had died.
Ben tells me he used to walk a couple miles a day, but now he has all he can do to walk down his driveway and get his paper. He does use a cane to walk with outside. He and his daughter Barb just returned from a trip in Hinsdale, NH where they had gone to visit a couple of Ben's sisters.
Ben tells me he sold his car and doesn't drive any more, but still has his license. He and Barb go out to Senior Luncheons in the area. When I asked Ben if he would be having a big party for his 90th, he told me that they had a big get together for his 85th birthday and would probably get together for some cake and ice cream.
Ben seems to have no problem with his memory and we certainly wish Ben a:
HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY
Today is your day Ben - Have a Happy 90th
