Title: Nate Charbonneau Thinks Ahead To Next Winter
Post by: Henry on March 28, 2009, 12:43:24 PM
Yesterday I drove up by the Bellows Farm and saw Nate Charbonneau out splitting wood with Dale's tractor.  It was a nice day yesterday, but today is even nicer with temperature in the 60s.  Nate tells me that they use the wood for Dale's place and his Mom's.  Nate is a very pleasant young man and stopped his work to visit with me.

I told him about the big changes from the time we used to cut wood with a crosscut saw and using wedges and a sledge hammer to split the wood.  My Dad tried to teach me the fine art of working with him cutting wood with a crosscut saw.  When I bore down on it too much, thinking that would cut the log faster, I remember him telling me, "You can get off and walk now."  The idea was to let the saw glide and it cut much better.

By the way, this by no means minimizes the hard work Nate is doing.  I didn't get a photo of the whole bunch of sawed up chunks that Nate has ahead of him to split.

Nate said he didn't use the chain saw.  An absolutely gorgeous day to be working outside
